Responsible Conduct of Research Program - Forums

RCR Program goals are to create an environment that is conducive to promoting research integrity by

  • providing student-researchers and post-doctoral fellows with the “survival skills” needed to aid in producing valid and accepted research
  • enhance appreciation for ethical standards and professional development
  • develop core competencies in responsible conduct of research
  • increase understanding of ethical theories, guidelines, and regulations regarding the practice of research
Forum/Training Registration
(see below)
Conveying concepts of sound and ethical conduct of research to new researchers has always been the province of faculty. Much of the program is designed to support faculty in conveying the principles of good practices in science.

NSF, NIH and the contractual obligation of researchers:

Faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and other research personnel who are supported or whose research activities are supported by funding agencies requiring RCR training are required to complete the training within 6 months and thereafter particpate in a refresher course every 4 years.

Colleges, departments, and individual faculty members may adopt training requirements that is not contingent on the funding source.

Formal training (e.g. research methods classes, graduate student orientations) delivered at the department level that include RCR topics, if sufficient in length and depth as judged by the ethics office, may meet the requirements.

Faculty, staff and graduate students whose research is supported by NIH or NSF funds: Attend, if possible, one of the two sessions currently scheduled. A more comprehensive approach to meeting the NSF and NIH requirements wil be introduced in the Fall 2022 term.

Undergraduates will have the opportunity to attend one 60 minute evening session. Topics for the session include: introduction to research misconduct, data management and collaboration, mentor-mentee relationships, ethical conduct, research with animals and humans, conflicts of interest, time management, and publication practices.

Use the form below to register for sessions. When you select a program (human subjects, RCR, or animal care), you will be given options for currently scheduled sessions.
